Pyramid Lake and Tufa Formations at Indian Head Rock
Indian Head Rock on the right is just one example of the giant tufa formations that formed more than 13,000 years ago at Lake Lahontan. The present day remnants can be seen around Pyramid Lake. This deposit is mainly composed of interlocking spheres, barrels and tubes of tufa. Broken and eroded sections have exposed generations of thinolite crystals.
