Bridgeport Bridge, South Yuba River State Park
The risk of closure due to budget cuts loomed in May when this shot was taken. The Bridgeport Bridge saw its final day open to the public on Friday Oct. 21, 2011. Due to structural issues it is now closed indefinitely to the public. The park is still open and the bridge can be viewed but the addition of chain link fencing definitely takes away some of its charm. The pictures below were taken on Oct 20th. Hopefully assessment and repairs can be done to save the bridge, but economic times are tough so we will have to wait and see.
A last look at the interior without the fences.
The new view will include chain link fences
capped by barbed wire at either end of the bridge.
